When I was a little girl, I used to look up to successful women and wonder how they managed to achieve so much in their lives.

I mean, juggling a successful career, maintaining a loving relationship, homemaking, and keeping up with hobbies and interests seemed like an impossible task.

As I grew older, I realized that it wasn’t just luck or natural talent that made these women successful, but also their consistent daily habits. 

These habits were not big or flashy, but rather simple and sustainable. And the good news is that anyone can adopt them and see positive changes in their life.

Why We All Should Have Daily Habits

Daily habits, whether good or bad, have a powerful impact on our lives. They determine our productivity, happiness levels, and overall success. 

Having consistent habits helps us develop discipline and focus, which are essential qualities for achieving our goals. Additionally, they save us valuable time and energy by streamlining our daily routines.

Most importantly, daily habits help us maintain balance in all aspects of our life, including work, relationships, and personal well-being. 

For women, since we often have to juggle multiple roles and responsibilities, having daily habits becomes even more crucial. These habits not only help us be successful but also prevent burnout and promote self-care.

For example, a simple habit of waking up early can give us extra time in the day to exercise, plan our meals, and prepare for work.

Or, a proper self-care routine can help us manage stress and maintain mental and emotional well-being, even in the midst of a busy schedule.

When I worked as a lifestyle editor for a female magazine back in the 2010s, I had the opportunity to interview successful women from different industries.

One thing that stood out was their dedication to daily habits that helped them thrive in both their personal and professional lives.

From CEOs to stay-at-home moms, they all had some form of a routine or habit that kept them organized, energized, and focused.

And it wasn’t just about having one or two specific habits but rather a combination of different habits that worked together to create a well-rounded and balanced lifestyle.

Some common daily habits among these successful women can of course be linked to specific industries, such as waking up early for those in the corporate world or practicing mindfulness for those in creative fields. 

However, there were also habits that were universal and applicable to all women, such as setting aside time for self-reflection and prioritizing self-care.

Indeed, these habits may seem small and insignificant, but they can make a big difference in our overall well-being and success.

So, let’s take a look at some habits that successful women swear by and see how we can incorporate them into our own lives:

When setting short-term goals, it’s important to make them specific, measurable, and achievable. Here are some examples of short-term goals:

By setting short-term goals, you can make progress towards your long-term goals and feel a sense of accomplishment along the way.

It will make no sense if you’re successful in your professional and personal life, but neglect your physical health. When you’re unwell, it can negatively impact your productivity and happiness. Therefore, it’s crucial to prioritize your physical well-being as much as your other goals.

Regular exercise is essential for maintaining physical health. It not only helps you stay in shape but also boosts your mood and improves your overall health. 

You don’t have to hit the gym for hours every day to get the benefits of exercise. Even a 30-minute walk or a quick yoga session can do wonders for your body and mind – just make sure to incorporate exercise into their daily routine. 

You can find activities you enjoy and make time for them, or try different forms of exercise to find what works best for you. Whether it’s running, swimming, dancing, or weightlifting, find something that you enjoy and stick with it.

So, always make time to read books, magazines, articles, and blogs related to your industry, as well as topics that interest you personally.

To make reading a part of your daily routine, set aside a specific time each day to read. It could be first thing in the morning, during your lunch break, or before bed. 

You can also use reading apps or audio books to make it more convenient and accessible. Make a list of books or articles you want to read and prioritize them based on their relevance and importance.

Although different persons will have different routines depending on their age, profession, and life choices, there are some common habits that successful women tend to have in their daily lives.

Waking Up Early

Michelle Obama, for example, revealed in an interview with the Glamour that she wakes up at 4:30 am to exercise and have some quiet time before her busy day begins. 

And if you are a mom of young kids (back in time when she was the First Lady), you will understand the need for some alone time before handling all family and work responsibilities.

Of course, it doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice your precious sleep. It’s essential to get enough sleep and find a balance that works for you.

Even if you’re not a morning person, finding a morning routine that allows you to start your day with intention and purpose can set the tone for a successful day ahead.

Physical activity is not only good for your physical health but also has numerous benefits for your mental health. Successful women make it a priority to include some form of exercise or physical activity in their daily routine.

Oprah Winfrey even shared what she eats for breakfast on her own website, stressing the importance of starting your day with a healthy and satisfying meal.

Personally, I found this one an extremely important habit to adopt. Without planning and having a good overview of what needs to be done, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed and scatter-brained.

Writing down a to-do list for the day or even the week can help you stay organized and focused on your goals, especially if you have demanding schedules, multiple projects, or a busy family life.

It also gives you a sense of accomplishment when you can cross off completed tasks from your list. It’s a small but powerful way to boost your confidence and motivation.

It’s no secret that successful women are highly organized and efficient with their time. One of the key ways they accomplish this is by prioritizing and delegating tasks.

Prioritization involves identifying the most important or urgent tasks and tackling them first. This allows for a more productive use of time.

Delegating tasks, on the other hand, involves recognizing when it’s necessary to ask for help or pass off certain responsibilities to others. This not only helps to lighten your workload, but also allows you to focus on the tasks that truly require your attention and expertise.

Taking care of yourself goes beyond just physical health. It’s also important to prioritize your mental well-being as well as take regular breaks to avoid burnout.

Some tips for creating a bedtime routine include setting a consistent bedtime and wake-up time, avoiding screens at least an hour before bed, and practicing relaxation techniques such as meditation or reading before going to sleep.

Aim for 7-9 hours of sleep each night for optimal rest and recharge for the next day. Even though it may seem difficult to make time for adequate sleep, the benefits far outweigh the extra hour or two of work you could have done.
